Night of Champions 2011 Predictions
INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH:
Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Ted DiBiase
Ever since Rhodes pinned Big Zeke and became the IC champion. He’s been a dominant force on the Smackdown roster, even though he hasn’t really defended the title. Rhodes has been quite a big factor in the wrestling world. So far we’ve seen Rhodes go up against Orton twice. Which confused me, because it looks like WWE is making Rhodes fit in the mainevent status. This match could quite possibly help Rhodes start his quest to become the WH Champion. DiBiase on the other hand hasn’t really impressed me enough to pick up the win this Sunday. WWE has had trouble making DiBiase a star, and they’ve failed a few times. Giving DiBiase the title win could possibly be the gateway for him to be a star. I’m not the biggest DiBiase fan but I wouldn’t mind seeing WWE use him properly. But I think giving DiBiase the title win is a little too early, depending on whether this feud will go on for a little while or not. I just see DiBiase as a decent mid card wrestler he hasn’t yet done enough to be an IC Champion. I also think this feud is a little too rushed. Theres not much of a buildup for this match which is quite disappointing. My predicted winner for this match goes to Cody Rhodes, Rhodes hasn’t held the title long enough to drop it to DiBiase. He’s had a great IC Title run and I think it’s too early for him to drop it. If DiBiase gets an IC title win it’ll probably be at Suvivor Series or later on in the future
Predicted Winner: Cody Rhodes
DIVAS TITLE MATCH:
Kelly Kelly (c) vs. Beth Phoenix
It’s the hometown hero vs Kelly Kelly. Hometown hero are the keywords here, Beth is highly likely to pick up the win. And it couldn’t be a better time for her to finally get the title win. Beth and Natalya’s new heel personas have been quite a spark in the divas division. And if they are willing to push these diva then the title changing hands at this Sunday will help this push by far. I’m also getting sick of the same old Kelly Kelly wins, she’s held the title for quite some time. She’s even gotten herself a nickname “the female John Cena” which is saying a lot. I’m not too interested in this feud. But if I was booking it Beth would get the title win in front of her hometown. Let’s hope this is how it goes down
Predicted Winner: Beth Phoenix
FATAL FOURWAY MATCH FOR UNITED STATES TITLE:
Dolph Ziggler (c) w/Vickie Guerrero vs. John Morrison vs. Jack Swagger vs. Alex Riley
I don’t remember the last time I saw a fatal four way match for the U.S title. So this will be quite interesting. The feud is a little off, I don’t know how Morrison and Riley got in the picture. This match should of just been Ziggler vs Swagger, at least that’ll make some sense. But it seems like WWE are trying to make the US title look like an important title, when it hasn’t really been looking like that over the past few months. I don’t mind Riley being in this fatal four way match, It’s Morrison that I have a problem with. Morrison hasn’t been the best worker in the WWE lately with his Injury that kept him out of the picture for a while an then his feud with Truth wasn’t quite what we expected. I think if anybody was to replace Morrison. Drew McIntyre would be the guy, McIntyre has been overshadowed for far too long, he hasn’t been used correctly and is probably the most underused wrestler on the Raw roster. And when McIntyre had his IC title run as ‘The Chosen One’ I saw so much potential and a great future in him. But WWE has seem to drop the ball on him lately, this would of been the best way to put him back in the spotlight. But Morrison is WWE’s back up guy when there’s somebody that needs to fill in a spot In a mid card match. It’s a tough match to call but I see a title change. Swagger is my pick for this Sundays US title match. It’ll probably be the end of Ziggler’s US title run and the end of Vickie being his manager. A change in the US title picture could do Raw some good. Swagger for the US Champion !
Predicted Winner: Jack Swagger
TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH:
Air Boom (c) vs. The Miz & R-Truth
Now that tag team division seem to be getting a fresh new start. It isn’t time yet for Air Boom to hang the titles up. Regardless off the fact that I hate the tag team partnership of Kofi and Bourne and their ridiculous tag team name. I think it’s a little too early for them to lose the title. Truth and Miz on the other hand have done nothing but impress me lately. I like their work together they create a great heel tag team and that’s exactly what the tag team division needs right now. To build this feud a little longer I suggest the tag champs to retain and let Truth and Miz pick up the title win at Suvivor Series or maybe at a later PPV
Predicted Winner: Air Boom
WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH:
Randy Orton (c) vs. Mark Henry
Mark Henry has been nothing but impressive over these past few months. And I don’t have a problem with WWE giving him a WH title run. Because let’s face it how long can Henry stick around. He has been in the business for over 15 years. It’s about time he got some credit for his work. But is Night of Champions really where the WH title will change hands ? I doubt it. This feud will seem to awkward to end at this PPV. Randy hasn’t been the best WH champion but letting him retain is probably the best idea. I see this feud going on for quite some time. Henry will most likely get a WH title run later down the road then lose it & probably drift off into the sun as he retires from his long career with WWE
Predicted Winner: Randy Orton
WWE HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH:
Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. John Cena
Cena vs Del Rio ! This is a first. It’s great seeing Cena going into this main event as the guy who’s fighting for the title. This doesn’t mean Cena is walking in without a title and leaving with a title. Del Rio is a great WWE Champion even though he’s held the title for a few weeks. Del Rio has really proven to me that he’s got what it takes to hold on that title a little longer then just a few weeks. This feud hasn’t really been the best on the card with Del Rio’s absence and all. I doubt it’s time for Del Rio to surrender to Cena just yet. This feud could quite possibly go on longer. Because Del Rio needs to grow as a champion, give him a few wins and a few losses then he’d be built as an incredible heel champion. Whatever the case may be I just hope Del Rio leaves the arena as still WWE Champion.
Predicted Winner: Alberto Del Rio
STIPULATION MATCH:
Triple H vs. CM Punk
(If Triple H loses, he resigns as Chief Operating Officer)
The reason why I’m buying this PPV is because of this match. This match makes the whole PPV worth seeing. Not only because Triple H is lacing up his boots an getting back in the ring. It’s because CM Punk is in the spotlight and taking on the boss. Some say this feud is the similar employee vs boss feud that Vince and Austin had but I think it’s too early to call it that just yet. Despite the fact that this match was originally planned to be Nash vs Punk. I don’t mind seeing these two go head to head. I too think it’s a little too early for this but nothing can really heal Nash’s bad knees in time for Night of Champions. It was quite a good transition of changing the match, it does make sense and Triple H and Punk do have some history together so why not have this match this Sunday. The only thing that bothered me about this matches is the stipulation. NO DQ and Triple H’s job on the line. C’mon that just screams out Nash interfering to help Triple H pick up the win. I highly doubt Punk will win regardless of how much I wish it would happen. Triple H won’t step down as COO it’s far too early and I don’t know who could take his spot. Stephanie McMahon ? Maybe but it just wouldn’t add up. At least we’ll see Punk and Triple H finally battle it out in the ring. I’ve been waiting to see this for quite some time now. But is Triple H up to scratch to have another match. I’m not sure whether he’s been having dark matches or been training but I’m sure he’ll be ready some way or another. I see this match going on for maybe 20 minutes or longer and Nash interfering from the barricade similar to when he made his recent return by jumping the crowd and giving Punk the jackhammer powerbomb. It would be interesting to see Nash not even make an appearance and see Punk pick up the win. But that’s just wishful thinking
Predicted Winner: Triple H
