WWE 12 Review (PS3)

At first I wasn’t really that excited about getting WWE 12. But after hearing the big buzz about it I knew I had to get myself a copy.

I saw the advertisements for the game and the changes, features etc. From the looks of it, it all looked pretty similar to the SvR series. But after playing my first match: Undertaker vs CM Punk. I was shocked at the differences they’d made. More so on the controls of the game, I was confused at first but after two-three plays I slowly got use to it. It seemed like the game focused more on the triangle, circle & x of the controller then the left and right analogs. For example I was more use to controlling a move on a groggy opponent by first setting them up with a strike attack. Then moving the right analog in the correct direction.

Other then setting up the opponent with the right analog stick & executing it using the x button. Small changes like that was what kept me off board on this game. But I soon got use to the changes, And I was happy with the new and improved road to Wrestlemania mode. The roster was very impressive so was the additional locked titles & legends. I managed to unlock a few titles like the Hardcore title, Light Heavyweight title, Million Dollar title etc. But what really caught my attention in this game was the creations you could pull off.

Create A Wrestler, Create A Finisher, Create An Arena, Create A Story. It was a great addition to the game if you like sitting on your couch customizing an arena for 20 minutes….. That was me, I spent probably an hour recreating the Raw Is War, WCW Monday Night Nitro, AWA, ROH arenas which I successfully completed but they really aren’t the best looking. I found Create A Story quite fun but a total waste of time. I was trying to create a storyline where Orton had just won the WH title from Mark Henry. And you had to add your own dialogue, so here I am thinking of the best thing for Orton to say. I felt like I was in WWE’s creative team. I had it all worked out in my head, Barrett’s new stable ‘The Nation’ was going to feud w/ Orton for a solid 2 PPVs. As Barrett’s teammates would finally help pull out a victory & a new champ from their leader. Sounds quite stupid ? I’m no Russo !!. But I gave up on that after thinking of the first few things Orton could of said.

I’m currently in the middle of the villain storyline in the road to Wrestlemania mode. I found it quite easy at the start but I’m up to the bragging rights PPV where you have to knock big show the fuck out and get a pin which is tremendously hard. But overall I’ve gotta say THQ did a good job here. They managed to take the realism of the game on a whole new different level. But I’ve got to hand it to THQ for pulling off a great installment to the list of WWE video games. I rate it a 8.5/10
