Is CM Punk Really Going To Make Wrestling Fun Again ?
Look at the adjective ‘fun’. When was the last time you thought wrestling was fun ?. If you grew up in the early 80’s would you say wrestling was fun when Warrior beat Hogan at WM VI ?. Or would you say wrestling was fun when Austin first stunnered Vince. There are so many periods in wrestling where we could say it was fun.
But at this point in wrestling today did the fun leave us a year or 2 years ago ?. It seemed to be going down hill, but did The Rock’s return really get us back in the WWE programs. I’d have to say it didn’t, he returned for one night. Became the guest host for Wrestlemania 27. Had a few encounters with Cena & showed up on his birthday episode of Raw. After that where did he go. Regardless of how hot he’s keeping his feud with Cena on twitter. Does that really count as keeping the feud alive. Sure he’s done a few shoot videos. But is he on tv ?. No he isn’t.. Maybe if he was wrestling would be fun again. But he is a valuable actor and I don’t hate the guy I love The Rock.
But honestly how can anybody make wrestling fun again. Is a feud so strong that it’ll change WWE permanently ? Is a character so strong it’ll make us tune in week after week. Yes there is, The guy goes by the name of CM Punk. After his shoot promo and victorious win at MITB. Punk has shot some sparks in the wrestling world, he’s help the ratings go up and he’s simply drawing attention. Punk is the man no matter how you see him, you can’t blind yourself away from the fact that he is the best in the business today. Heres a question: When was the last time a wrestler got you so pumped for a pay-per-view ?. Punk helped WWE’s buy rate incredibly and kudos goes to Punk and Cena who’s both been carrying this feud to be one of the best in a while.
I can’t turn my back on a guy who’s helped a company grow and help wrestling reach a larger audience. I can’t hate a guy who’s done so much for WWE. That guy is John Cena, yes we rage at his countless victories, yes we rage at the audience of kids he brings into wrestling. But can we blame the guy ? John Cena is a major commodity in WWE today but no he’s not making wrestling fun again. It doesn’t all fall into the hands of the guy who’s done it all. It falls in the hands of the guy who makes the impact and takes it to any limit to make wrestling what it use to be.
I honestly thought Punk was done after that shoot promo on Raw. I honestly thought there’s no more MITB match. But that’s when creative takes a leaf out of the ‘how to make wrestling fun again’ guide book and works magic. At that point WWE felt like wrestling again. Everything seemed to be falling into place, the Punk/Cena feud was a must see and it was an amazing match for an amazing pay-per-view. People said MITB was better then Wrestlemania this year . And that said something huge, It said Punk has the potential to put a match on top for any PPV. And it’s the push that he’s given to make wrestling fun again. It was his prime reason of why he retuned, I even heard him say it himself on the BS Report podcast. And he seemed determined to do it. With compelling promos on Raw and attention grabbing feuds, CM Punk really is the guy to make wrestling fun again.
