Is Beth Phoenix’s Heel Turn A Big Help To The Divas Division ?
A big help Is exactly what the divas division needs right now. Look who your champion is. It was pretty surprising to me that Beth Phoenix turned heel so soon. Just a few days after she said she was going to change her character on Colt Cabana’s podcast ‘Art of Wrestling’. And I’m a huge fan of heel divas. There’s a few now but they don’t stand out to me. It’s either character wise or they just can’t wrestle. Natalya in her beginning days of a WWE diva was great. Every Hart in the Hart family plays great heels. I guess it’s in their blood. Natalya really has character and she’s a decent in ring competitor. Sure she plays a great face too. But most divas are at their best when they play heels.
We were so swept away with the debut of Kharma. Our interest for the divas division grew. But unfortunately she had to take some time off as she was pregnant, which was the worst time to leave. But she didn’t really have a choice, and as our interest stopped growing. The divas division takes a wrong turn and makes a pretty bad landing. Kelly Kelly becomes the divas champion and her ongoing feud with The Bellas parks itself into stale territory. With a few weeks of this feud and pointless 6 women tag matches. The divas division was really at their lowest point. Then comes Raw, second match in and the winner of the battle royal is determined the number one contender for the Divas championship. Little did I think Beth Phoenix would win, and she pulls the unexpected victory. By eliminating both Bellas at once. We saw a change for once, which isn’t common in the divas division. Usually a heel turn in the divas division is very low key. It’s either done backstage or after a match. This really said something to me. This reinvested my attention in the divas division.
Beth Phoenix is most probably the most underused talent on the Raw roster. And I don’t see that as a surprise. I see that as same old WWE. Their lack of creativity for the divas division is shocking. But things could take the right turn Into the right direction. But the question is, Is WWE leaching Kharma’s raging heel character onto Beth Phoenix. I don’t see it as a bad thing I see it as a terrific idea for a heel. And as soon as Kharma makes a return which is hopefully before Wrestlemania. We might see these two square off on the biggest stage of em’ all.
SummerSlam is a few days away. I see a K2/Phoenix feud leading into SummerSlam. Where hopefully theres a new divas champion. And the divas division isn’t looking too messed up. I could also see more fresh feuds taking place, with the amount of face divas. There could be all sorts of feuds happening. Unless WWE wants to drop the ball of Beth Phoenix and make this feud a knockoff of the feud Kelly had w/ The Bellas. Then I’ll probably just look forward to seeing Kelly Kelly in her sexy attire each week.
